SCOUT EXECUTIVE -JAMBOREE JOURNEY

A Scouting Legacy

July 20, 2017

Today I would like to touch on the Legacy of Scouting in three different posts, 1) The Goodrich Lake Statue Dedication, 2) Greater Alabama Council Executive Board, 3) Our awesome Media Team.

Goodrich Lake Statue Dedication Ceremony

Today we had the honor to participate in the Goodrich Lake Statue Ceremony, which unveiled the statue of Mike Goodrich, long time board member of the Greater Alabama Council, Eagle Scout, Distinguished Eagle Scout, Silver Buffalo, Antelope and Never recipient.  Mike and Gillian Goodrich have long supported scouting and they are an amazing leaders in our community.  The legacy of their family in Scouting is deep and significant.  Mike and Gillian made a significant gift to the Summit which allowed the BSA to build a magnificent lake that is the centerpiece of the property.  Goodrich lake is over 30 acres and numerous aquatic programs and activities happen all over this beautiful body of water.  We joined the national council in honoring this great gift to Scouting, we were joined by some of the scoutleaders and youth from our council contingent.  Thank you Mike for all you do for Scouting!

Greater Alabama Council Executive Board

Another great legacy of scouting in our council are our dedicated board members and staff.  Today we had the great honor of hosting our past Chairman of the Board, Jim Hughey and Bill Morton, along with our Vice Chair, Phil Webb, our VP of Donor Relations, Greg Cook, our Council Commissioner Ron Moore, Council Treasurer, Scott Berte, and donor Rick Stewart who joined the group and graciously used his plane to bring everyone up along with our Development Director Tommy Youngblood.  This great group of Scouters took the time to come up to help celebrate the Goodrich Lake and to explore the 2017 National Scout Jamboree.

2017 National Media Team

As I have mentioned in previous posts, our National Media Team here at the 2017 National Scout Jamboree is an amazing group of dedicated Scouts, Scouters and Professionals.  They have been working like crazy and it is paying off.  Here are a few pictures of the team at work
